This comprehensive report is a collaboration between Elympics, the Blockchain Game Alliance, and PlayToEarn. It surveys 1,000 gamers worldwide to gain insights into their experiences and perceptions of Web3 games.
Barriers to Entry
One of the most significant findings is the barrier presented by complicated cryptocurrency wallets. Over 10% of survey participants identified this complexity as the primary reason for not engaging with blockchain games.
Additionally, 7.3% expressed needing clarification about the value of Web3 gaming, while 2.4% felt satisfied with traditional Web2 gaming experiences. A further 9.1% of respondents stated that blockchain gaming does not appeal to them.
Motivations for Gaming
Despite these barriers, the report highlights critical motivations for gaming. Many respondents play games for airdrops and the potential to earn money, while the competitive nature of gaming draws others.
Elympics CEO Michal Dabrowski acknowledges the struggle to attract mainstream gamers but foresees a significant shift. "The entry of infrastructure players like TON into the web3 gaming space is introducing powerful social distribution networks and highly engaged communities," Dabrowski writes.
Innovations in the Space
The report also points to initiatives aimed at overcoming the crypto wallet hurdle. Projects like The Open Network (TON) are working towards more seamless user experiences.
On April 19, TON Foundation's Justin Hyun emphasized the convenience of Telegram's Mini Apps, suggesting users could interact with crypto without even realizing it.
This innovation has led to a surge of interest in the TON ecosystem, with games like Hamster Kombat attracting millions of users.
A Look to the Future
As Web3 gaming develops, the focus is shifting towards user-friendly and engaging platforms. The industry is poised to captivate a broader audience with infrastructure improvements and quality games.
The collaborative efforts and technological advancements signal a promising future for blockchain gaming as high-quality games gain traction among gamers worldwide.
