TL;DR Vice President Kamala Harris is set to support measures that promote the growth of digital assets. This move marks a significant shift in the Democratic stance on cryptocurrency. It comes amid increasing efforts to engage the crypto community.
Harris To Support Digital Asset Policies
Vice President Kamala Harris is entering the world of digital assets, or at least that is what she and her team have said, however it remains to be seen whether she will or not.
For now, a policy adviser to Harris's campaign recently revealed she will support measures to help grow digital assets, a Bloomberg article reveals.
When asked about their efforts to engage the crypto community, Brian Nelson, the senior campaign advisor for policy, said, "She's going to support policies that ensure that emerging technologies and that sort of industry can continue to grow."
This statement was made during a Bloomberg News roundtable at the Democratic National Convention. Nelson added, "Obviously, they've expressed that one of the things they need are stable rules, rules of the road."
A prominent crypto analyst, Adam Cochrane, highlighted the significance of this move in an X post. He stated, "This is the first official statement from the Harris campaign about crypto in any capacity, and it is a positive one. Let's acknowledge that's a huge step from where we've been in the past and keep pushing."
U.S. Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-NC) also expressed his excitement. He commented, "I've been working hard to push for a reset on crypto and am thrilled about this important policy statement."
More Efforts Of Engagement From The Democrats
The Democratic party is showing increased interest in engaging with the crypto community.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, the majority leader in the U.S. Senate, participated in a Crypto4Harris event last week and promised to pass cryptocurrency legislation out of the Senate before the end of the year.
A noted Bitcoin enthusiast, Mark Cuban, revealed that the Harris campaign had contacted him. He mentioned that they had asked him 'multiple questions' about crypto, which he described as' a good sign.'
Harris' Policy Roll Out
The Democratic nominee has begun rolling out her policy agenda, focusing on the economy. This is pegged as the central issue of November's election.
If elected, Harris has vowed to build up the middle class as the defining focus of her presidency. Increased taxes on corporations and high earners would offset the costs of her new proposals.
Harris says she supports increasing the U.S. corporate tax rate to 28%, while Trump, who, in office (2016-2020), cut it from 35% to 21%, proposes further reductions.
