TL;DR Elon Musk's social media platform, X, faced a massive DDOS attack just as a high-profile interview with Donald Trump was about to begin. The attack aimed to disrupt the conversation, which marked Trump's return to the platform. Despite the technical challenges, the event proceeded with a smaller audience.

Massive DDOS Attack on X

Elon Musk said yesterday that a cyber attack targeted his social media platform, X while interviewing and chatting with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Tesla founder and X owner also said his social media platform was under a massive distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attack and that an X tech team was trying to resolve the security breach.

Hackers use DDOS attacks to disrupt a website or service by flooding the network with spurious traffic, preventing users from accessing the site.

The alleged attack coincided with a highly anticipated joint X Spaces event at 8 pm Eastern Time, featuring a conversation between Musk and former President Donald Trump.

Technical Challenges and Solutions

Musk reported that the system had already been tested earlier that day. 'We tested the system with 8 million concurrent listeners earlier today,' he said.

However, multiple users complained of technical issues, stating they could not join the event—those who managed to enter only heard waiting music, with neither Musk nor Trump speaking.

Despite the difficulties, Musk announced that the X Spaces event would proceed with fewer concurrent listeners at 8:30 pm ET.

The unedited audio would be posted immediately after that. Musk said, 'As this massive attack illustrates, there's a lot of opposition to people just hearing what President Trump has to say.'

Trump's Return to X

Trump returned to X on Aug. 12, posting for the first time since January 2021, when he was banned from the platform. Over the past three years, he had primarily posted on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The conversation with Musk was intended to mark his return to X and was promoted by both parties as a significant event.

During the event, Trump recounted his assassination attempt in detail and spoke about immigration. No mention of crypto or Elon Musk's affinity for Dogecoin (DOGE) existed.

The interview did not reveal any new information about Trump's thinking or plans for a potential second term.

Media Reaction and Future Prospects

On Aug. 13, Musk predicted that 'almost all of the legacy media will trash the Trump conversation, thus driving total listeners probably past 200+ million.'

Trump has been vocal about Bitcoin recently, pledging not to sell any of the U.S. Treasury's stash should he get elected. Even rival Kamala Harris has acknowledged crypto voters, forming a new advocacy group called 'Crypto for Harris' last week.

'Almost all of the legacy media will trash the Trump conversation, thus driving total listeners probably past 200+ million,' Musk said.

This developing story highlights the challenges of hosting high-profile conversations in today's digital age, where cyber attacks pose a significant threat.
