TL;DR A recent survey found that women in the crypto industry earn nearly 15% more than their male counterparts. The median salary for U.S.-based full-time working women in crypto is $172,000, compared to $150,000 for men. This marks a significant reversal of the traditional gender wage gap.

A recent survey conducted by Pantera Research Lab has unveiled a fascinating trend in the crypto industry. On a median salary basis, women in crypto are making nearly 15% more than their male counterparts.
This reversal of the traditional gender wage gap is a significant finding in the rapidly evolving field of digital assets.
Survey Findings
The average salary for US-based full-time working women in the crypto industry is $172,000. In contrast, men earn a median salary of $150,000. These figures emerged from a comprehensive compensation survey conducted by Pantera Research Lab.
Researchers Matt Stephenson, Ally Zach, and Nick Zurck explained the findings on July 29, noting, "Our analysis finds that gender wage differentials among crypto employees are the reverse of what is normally observed."
Comparative Analysis
Women at non-crypto companies typically earn $0.84 for every dollar that men earn. This stark contrast highlights the crypto industry's progressive approach to gender equity.
Pantera's researchers noted, "The relatively fair wages in crypto suggest a move toward greater gender equity, marking a progressive trend in this fairly new field."
Data Collection
Pantera collected data from 502 full-time United States-based employees between June 4 and July 20, 2024. The web-based survey was disseminated via professional networks such as LinkedIn, X, newsletters, and emails. Women's higher salaries may partly be attributed to their greater experience in crypto companies. Women have a median experience of 5.3 years, compared to 4.5 years for men.
Roles and Experience
Women also hold a more significant proportion of mid-level to senior positions within the industry. In contrast, more men occupy entry-level positions as they transition into crypto.
This distribution might further explain the salary disparity. However, Pantera's researchers cautioned, "It is important to recognize that women still likely continue to face hurdles and obstacles in this industry."
Industry Leadership
Despite these encouraging salary trends, leadership positions in the crypto industry still show a gender imbalance. According to a report from Forex Suggest, only three of the 50 leading crypto CEOs in 2023 were female.
Nevertheless, both men and women in crypto enjoy higher salaries than many other professions, making the industry attractive to talent.
